Forensic psychologists are concerned with the application of psychology to the criminal justice system, and with understanding the psychological processes related to criminal behaviour. They are sometimes known as 'criminal psychologists' or 'investigative psychologists'. Forensic psychology is viewed by many as criminal profiling. While this is one aspect there are many other aspects, forensic psychology also relates to the assessment and treatment of those individuals displaying criminal behaviour. Forensic psychologists have the ability to interact effectively not only with criminals, but with victims and police officers as well.

The course then takes a look at the issue of violent crime and gives the student the links between mental disorders and violent crime. Following on from this the Forensic Psychology course makes a brief examination of serial murder and the different causal factors that have been put forward as contributing to the development of the serial killer.

The Forensic Psychology course then proceeds to examine the links between substance abuse serious crime, violent crime, acquisitive crime and mental disorder and governmental responses to substance abuse.

The student is then led to the courtroom and an examination of criminal responsibility and psychiatric defences. This course features a whole host of interesting modules and topics for the learner to get their teeth into. The comprehensive online course is wide reaching, and will give you an in depth understanding of the criminal mind.

You will complete this course through self guided study, and will not receive any tutor support with the course. Working your way through the online course materials, you will then complete a multiple choice question and answer exam. But don't worry too much, as you can resit your exam as many times as you no extra cost!


The great news is that there are no entry requirements or previous knowledge required to start this course. All learners will receive a level 3 NCC certificate in Forensic Psychology upon completion of the course.
